In celebration of Final Fantasy's twentieth anniversary, Square Enix will be bringing us a new Final Fantasy spinoff, Dissidia, for the PSP on August 25, 2009. Dissidia is not just a fighting game, it also features a storyline and role-playing elements, as well as the ability to make customizations within the game. Dissidia brings together some of the greatest characters in Final Fantasy history for them to challenge one another to epic battles. Two gods, Cosmos and Chaos, have been struggling against one another, recruiting warriors to fight on their behalf. When Cosmos appears to be failing, she gathers her ten bravest and tells them in order to win the war, they each must go in search of a crystal that will aid them.
The story mode of the game allows players to assume each hero's quest, in any order they prefer. Equipment is shared amongst the warriors and can be taken off one and put onto another. As you progress the story, the battles the character encounters will help them level, learn new abilities and find items. Shops exist in which you can buy new weapons and armor and you can also equip summons to specific buttons for battles. A museum option will also appear in the game, to house music samples, cutscenes and more. Dissidia's battle system was designed by the creators of Kingdom Hearts, featuring familiar abilities like air recovery. The in-game graphics are on level with those of Final Fantasy VII: Crisis Core and the cast features such heroes as, Tidus, Cecil, Squall, Cloud, and Zidane who will battle against Sephiroth, Jecht, Gabranth, and Kefka.
