For those who may be out of the loop or just thought someone was messing with you, it's not a lie. In April, Sony Pictures did announce that they would be making a live-action version of the award-winning 2005 video game, Shadow of the Colossus, a PlayStation 2 exclusive. The game was praised for its gorgeous soundtrack, character design, aesthetics and is considered to be very moving, despite the almost zero dialogue from beginning to end.
The game follows a man named Wander and his horse, Agro, who in order to save a woman named Mono, must kill sixteen creatures called the colossi. Despite some reviews saying the game had little replay value, it still became a cult hit. Now, Kevin Misher, producer of The Scorpion King and The Interpreter, is negotiating to produce the film and Justin Marks, writer of, Street Fighter: The Legend of Chun-Li, is working on the screenplay. The film is tentatively being slated for 2012.
To help you cope with this news and the loss of any hope you may have had for it, Fumito Ueda and the Shadow of the Colossus team are working on a new PlayStation 3 exclusive, The Last Guardian. The trailer here just tells me one of two things will happen throughout the course of this game. One, the boy will die. Two, the guardian will die. Either way, it will be the most beautiful and heartbreaking game I'll ever play.
