For those who haven't been keeping up to date with the doings of Square Enix, here is the latest on their up and coming games released under the Final Fantasy XIII title. The games all span the same universe but do not have anything in common story wise. The role playing game, FFXIII is a PS3 exclusive in Japan and has a release date of December 17, 2009, while Europe and the United States have been told by the CEO of Square Enix that they hope for only a season's delay in the release of an English version and are shooting for the spring of 2010.
Upon the release in Japan, the game will cost 8,000 yen, or $95.00. There will also be an option to purchase a bundle with FFXIII and the new slim PS3, although no prices have been confirmed for this sale. In the United States, the game will also be available for the X-Box 360, although Square Enix has stressed that it was designed for the Playstation and will simply be transported to another platform. Final Fantasy Versus XIII is being projected more like an action game, with combat similar to that of Kingdom Hearts, whereas FFXIII has enemies in real-time, like XII, but still flashes to a new screen to conduct the fighting. There is still no release date for this PS3 game, little story has been revealed and no demos have been shown, even though the game has been in development longer that its role playing counterpart. Final Fantasy Agito XIII is the third installment of this world, yet to be released for the PSP. Combat will be more like Final Fantasy VII: Crisis Core, with the ability to control multiple characters. Originally, this game was to be released on the next generation of mobile phones but it was announced in 2008 that it would instead be on the PSP. Twelve characters have been revealed so far and all seem to be students at a magic school called, Akademeia.
I'm most excited for Versus, just from looking at the jaw-dropping artwork and visual graphics that are slowly being leaked, despite the lack of information about the game itself. Which do you want to play the most? Leave a comment below or join our Forum to discuss the games with other members!
