Marvel Entertainment, having recently partnered with Japan's Madhouse animation studio (Death Note, Devil May Cry, Paranoia Agent, X) will be producing a anime show for both Iron Man and Wolverine. Each series is being written by Warren Ellis (Planetary) and will be thirteen episodes long.
News from Comic-Con International is that Madhouse will also be animating Planet Hulk as a special, direct to DVD film. Madhouse was also supposed to be working on a Blade and X-Men anime, however, there is no footage of these projects released.
My first thoughts regarding western characters being emerged into a totally different style of animation and storytelling was, oh no. However, upon watching the teaser trailers, which have been said by Warren Ellis to be test footage of the animation style and aesthetic look, and not anything to do with the actual story.
The series are expected to air in Japan in the spring of 2010 and are also being marketed for the South Asia audience. There is no current airdate for these shows in North America.
I personally enjoy the Iron Man concept more, but then again, I've always thought he was the more interesting, well developed character of the two. Take a look at the trailers here.
